Cleaning your new Toika reed

< 1 min read

During manufacture the stainless steel dents of your Toika Arctic or Profile reed are protected with a light mineral oil. Some of this oil may remain and should be removed before you use your reed for the first time so that you don’t stain your yarn.

  1. Remove the plastic sleeve and dispose of it responsibly.
  2. Do NOT try to remove the blue tape on the top and bottom edges of an Arctic reed. This tape is integral to the structure of the reed and also protects you and your loom from the protruding ends of the dents.
  3. With the bottom edge of the reed sat on a table wipe the dents vertically from both sides at the same time with a microfibre cloth or duster. You should be sandwiching the dents between two layers of cloth. You do not need to use a solvent or other chemical cleaner.
  4. Don’t try to wipe the dents along the horizontal length of the reed. You will shred your cloth, and if excessive force is used you may bend the dents.
